One year ago last month, a group of about ten friends gathered at a downtown coffee shop just to meet up and discuss their shared interest in Humanism. Today, the group that formed from that meeting, The Humanists of Winchester, has 134 Facebook followers, 18 paid members, and is averaging around 20 attendees (both members and visitors) at its monthly meetings.
The Humanists of Winchester are celebrating their first year as a community organization in Clark County. To help us celebrate, we will have a special guest at our October meeting. Mark Alsip of Lexington, a science promoter and published author, will join us as he gives a presentation on his “Journey to Reason” from his former life as a young Earth creationist.
Mark recently published Journey to Reason: Walking Away from Young Earth Creationism and Fundamentalist Religion. The public is invited to join us for this and all of our gatherings. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 PM at the Clark County Public Library, 370 South Burns Ave. in Winchester.
